Standard First Aid/CPR C & AED — 16 hours

(Appropriate for most workplaces and individuals)

This comprehensive course covers how to prevent, recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies such as airway, breathing and cardiovascular problems.

Skills covered are: bandaging techniques for various types of wounds and severe bleeding; recognition and treatment of bone and joint injuries with practice applying different slings and splints; techniques for moving and transporting casualties; treating various medical conditions as well as head and spinal injuries, poisoning, burns and environmental injuries .

This course also includes a discussion of Emergency Medical Services, legal issues involved in rendering aid and concerns regarding disease transmission.

Standard First Aid/CPR C & AED Recertification — 8 hours

(Appropriate for individuals who have completed the full Standard First Aid & CPR course within the previous 3 years)

This course is a refresher and will cover everything listed in the above Standard First Aid & CPR courses.

Standard Child Care First Aid/CPR B & AED — 16 hours

(Appropriate for Early Childhood professionals, dayhome providers and parents)

This course covers many of the same components as Standard First Aid & CPR, with focus on babies and children.

Additional skills covered include: specific conditions that affect babies and children; recognizing illness; and preventing infection. Standard Child Care First Aid includes discussion of vital signs and administering medications as well as information about child abuse and neglect.

Alberta Family and Social Services recognize this course for day care employees and day home providers. Parents or anyone who is in contact with children will find this course beneficial.

Recertification — 8 hours

(Appropriate for individuals who have completed the full Standard Child Care First Aid & CPR course within the previous 3 years)

This course is a refresher and will cover everything listed in the above Standard Child Care First Aid & CPR course.

Emergency First Aid / CPR C & AED — 8 hours

(Appropriate for most workplaces and individuals)

This course deals with life threatening priorities.

Skills covered include: recognizing, treating and preventing airway, breathing and cardiovascular emergencies; bandaging techniques for various types of wounds and severe bleeding; recognizing and treating simple fractures, and practice applying different slings.

This course also includes a discussion of Emergency Medical Services, legal issues involved in rendering aid and concerns regarding disease transmission.

CPR C & AED — 4 hours

(Appropriate for most workplaces and individuals)

Adult, Child and Baby Skills

This course deals with: airway and breathing emergencies in adults, children and babies as well as the different CPR skills needed for each. Lecture topics include: basic anatomy and physiology; Emergency Medical Services; legal issues; disease transmission; and preventing childhood emergencies.

CPR C & AED for Health Care Providers — 4 hours

(Appropriate for health care professionals)

This course deals with: airway and breathing emergencies in adults, children and babies as well as the different CPR skills needed for each age group.

Lecture topics include: basic anatomy and physiology; Emergency Medical Services; legal issues; disease transmission; and preventing childhood emergencies.

CPR C & AED Recertification — 3 hours

(Appropriate for individuals who have completed the full CPR (Level C) course within the previous year)

This course is a refresher and will cover CPR skills for adults, children and babies.

Babysitter — 8—10 hours

(Appropriate for youth over 11 years of age)

This course introduces young adults to caring for children on their own. It teaches them about responsibility and the importance of injury prevention in young children.

Lecture topics include: the ages and stages of development; provision of appropriate care; interview skills; resume writing; diaper changing; and most importantly, what to do in an emergency.
